About the Event Logo

Software Freedom Day

I was asked several times about this, so I decided to set the record straight and explain it here. When you look at the logo, you will find that it clearly points the date as Sat. 19 September, while we are having the event on Sat. 17 October.

Software Freedom Day is a worldwide event organized by the Software Freedom International organization, they announce the event date and all the groups organizing the event have to hold it on that day’s week, 20 or 21 September for example.

We tried to do it, but we knew that it will fail for an obvious reason, Ramadan. No one was interested in waking up early in the morning to hear about open source, or anything for that matter! So, in order that the event gets the success it deserves, we decided to delay it to October. However, to stay affiliated with Software Freedom International, we had to keep the logo as it is, so that our event is still an official Software Freedom Day.

Hope that made things clear. For any inquiries, please contact us on sfd@mufix.org. Looking forward to seeing all of you next Saturday.
